“We welcome this morning’s announcement by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, launching a €2m Covid-19 Online Retail Scheme for Irish SMEs. This will unlock a whole area of opportunity for SMEs to enhance their digital capability and online offering.
“Our recent SME Digital Health Index research shows that 73% of SMEs say their website is important in driving future sales growth. Therefore, the ability to apply for funding to boost their online presence is a significant benefit to SMEs. It’s important that the scheme is implemented with the flexibility SMEs need.
“In these uncertain times, such measures will help to keep businesses in operation by upgrading to e-commerce, allowing many to continue to trade.
“This is a really positive step by Government and Enterprise Ireland, which will help SMEs in the immediate crisis. A well-established online presence will be a key platform to help businesses get back on their feet once this crisis has passed.
“We strongly encourage businesses to make use of the full range of financial and technical supports available to them through the Government, local enterprise offices and chambers of commerce at this time.”
