Kids Speech Labs, based in Dublin, has just been announced as the regional winner of the Super Connect for Good competition run by Hays, the recruiting experts, and global super connectors Empact Ventures.

The competition recognises Kids Speech Labs as the best emerging tech start up in the Republic of Ireland that brings positive social change and enhances people’s lives through technology. It is one of eight regional winners across the UK and Ireland.

Kids Speech Labs is building the first remote, automated assessment of children’s speech and language skills. Its goal is to ensure that no child falls behind socially or educationally because of missed speech and language delays.

The platform developed by the company consists of interactive games that can reliably score children’s speech and language skills. If a child has been identified as needing to attend therapy, the platform acts as a window into the development of that child’s speech outside of the therapist’s office. This enables therapists to tailor assessments and interventions more precisely.

Equal 1 Laboratories came second in the region and Trezeo was awarded third place.

On 17th November 2020 during Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Virtual Final will be held featuring all eight regional winners pitching to be crowned the national winner with six industry winners also announced. The event will also feature a digital exhibition and two roundtable discussions with speakers from Hays, Microsoft for Startups, Great Ormand Street Hospital, Sifted, the National Institute for Health Research and others. David Burke, Director and Regional Lead for Hays Technology Ireland, who was one of the regional judges for the Republic of Ireland, commented: “As expected, the standard of applications in Ireland reflected the diversity, quality and innovative nature of our national start-up ecosystem. When I say these were margin calls from the top 10 down to an eventual winner, I truly mean it. As always though there can only be one winner and the standout item for the judging panel, in relation to Kids Speech Labs, was the tangible, measurable and potentially life-changing impact they are having on kids’ lives today! This is a company with an ambitious forward plan but at every step along that journey, they are making a positive impact in the real world. A worthy winner from a very, very tight race.

Kosta Mavroulakis, Founder & CEO, Empact Ventures, comments: “It was fantastic to receive such high-quality applications which made it very tough for our regional judges to decide on the Regional Winner. We thank the regional judges from Hays, Dublin BIC, Workhuman, AIB, Arthbunut Latham and FinTech Ireland for volunteering their time to support the competition. Kids Speech Labs deserved their place as the Regional Winner for the Republic of Ireland who are already making a lasting impact on many children lives to support their development. We wish them the best of luck as they go head-to-head with other regional winners across the UK and Ireland to be crowned national winner of the Super Connect for Good 2020 Competition.”

Heiri Corr, Project Executive at Dublin BIC & Managing Director at New Level Consultancy, who was one of the regional judges for the Republic of Ireland, comments: “Being asked to be a judge is certainly not a role to be taken lightly as you have the power within your decision-making process to make a real impact on a business and its journey to success.
